The lowdown...
A supernatural thriller starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford (pictured) as Claire and Norman Spencer, a happily married couple whose lives come apart when a ghostly presence begins haunting Claire. Is it all in her head, as her husband believes, or is the specter real and out for vengeance? Claire works to unravel the mystery and discover "what lies beneath" her seemingly tranquil life. Directed by Robert Zemeckis.
Any good?
What Lies Beneath is a somewhat satisfying (if predictable) thriller that plays as an homage to director Alfred Hitchcock. However, Hitch would have held back many of the details that help the audience work out this "mystery" long before the film's ending. The film does offer some legitimate starts, and it is beautifully photographed. Zemeckis plays around quite successfully with CGI, and this film offers a wonderful lesson in how modern technology can be used to enhance, not replace, human interaction on screen.
If you have never seen this film and you're popping it into the DVD player, please take heed... do NOT watch the trailer prior to watching the movie. The trailer is another in a long, long line of examples of "giving away too much" that is plaguing Hollywood today (see pull quote at left).

When the cold wind blows I think of you
Your emerald eyes your golden shoes
You walk away from my rage
On the flaggy shore I watch the waves
